    Re: Info {Can I Have It?}

    Srxjo,

    If I were you I would focus on improving resting within the PT for MP and organising with the WHM who should be doing what. If your whm is being attentive and is trying to cover the PLD's inadequacies, then ask him to let the pld get into the red. Nothing motivates a bad PLD to self-cure more than getting close to death at full MP. You may have a ragequit if the PLD dies, but frankly it'll be a wake-up call for him to start utilizing the mp pool you're supplying him with.

    I don't think the overall issue here is whether or not you need damage reduction, though. It seems like either the PT you're in is bad or you're having MP management issues within the PT. Ideally, the WHM should be resting enough to keep the chain going. If he's standing around doing nothing for extended periods of time when he could easily be recovering the mp you claim he overzealously uses, then he's a bad whm.

    I can honestly say I've never been in a situation where I've been supporting a whm but have been forced to main heal. Normally I support the whm by throwing in cures when something's causing the tank to lose health rapidly (read:nin tank, on most accounts). Otherwise I stick to the haste and refresh chain, with the occasional regen I.

    Now, your own losing MP quickly is an issue to be concerned about. Consider getting a macro for equipping hMP items when you rest, such as the Dark Staff and Baron's Slops. If you're having MP issues, use Ginger Cookies, Pie +1s, or Mushroom Stew (stew is the best in my opinion for RDM, it also provides MND). If you're still having trouble, then your inefficiency may be in your refresh/haste chain. Consider alternating refreshes and hastes (even if haste hasn't worn out yet) to minimize time standing during battle. If you're still having problems, then do not use elemental damage spells if you currently are. They're not MP efficient for your purpose and will have you squatting desperately for MP.

    So for a short reference, focus on the following, in this order:

    Your own ability and timing to recover mp > Your party's proficiencies in their respective classes >>>>>>>> Damage reduction items

        I know a guy who makes an Excel sheet on all the people he's PT'd with oddly enough. So when he makes a PT he has a list of whos on his Never Invite list, although when he makes a fast PT he sometimes pulls from them,,,,we had a Drk move to a perma ban recently due to his inability to stop Voking off the PLD.

          If your PLD isn't healing, he's not being an effective tank. The biggest tool to gaining hate that a Paladin has is that they can heal themselves as well.

            It depends on the lvl, at higher levels you don't really need to heal yourself because you get so many hate tools from both main and sub, Flash and Voke with enough +emnity is enough to keep hate on you most of the times, and if you add abilities such as Warcry and Rampart then Cures become just an extra in case you have a DD that's really hitting hard enough to get the mobs attention from time to time.

            I say this because all the WHM I party with like keeping me in the 1000hp+ region. So I rarely have a chance to generate much hate with my cures, and hate really isn't a problem after lvl 60. With enough practice you can keep a good amount of hate on you without Cures.

            After lvl 70 it isn't rare for WHMs to just keep Regen and Haste on you and just toss a Cure V when you have taken enough damage, which usually happens only once or twice per fight, so MP really isn't an issue either.

              I wouldn't really advocate it's use for party play (although I wouldn't rule it out, either, because you just never know), but I think for solo it can be pretty handy.
              For soloing it certainly is a nice ring, but for parties it really shouldn't be neccisary.

(sorry if any of you are a Pld i just get bad like)
              You're best bet in this situation is to put some space between you and the mob, not only will it eliminate any chance of getting hit from a stray AoE or random attack in your direction if you get enough space between you you won't gain any aggro from the mob when you cure yourself. Obviously there's time you can't do this because of other aggroing mobs but if there's space its a good tactic.

              As for the Bio Vs Dia debate I'd say it depends more on the mob than the tank. While you can use Bio to lower attack since PLDs are getting hit more if you're on high def mobs such as crabs or high hp more like dhamels then Dia is still probably the better choise. Bio can be useful on high attack mobs such as scorpions and spiders though.

                Yeah...that's what I said. But thanks for backing me up on that?

                Re: Bio/Dia - Of course it's dependent on the mob. That's what all of us have been saying. The thing is, most exp mobs (even spiders and raptors) still don't really require Bio. Dia will allow the party to kill them faster, meaning they hit the tank less, meaning he or she needs less healing, and meaning that everyone in the party benefits.

                      Re: Info {Can I Have It?}

                      Bird's don't hit really hard, except their TP attack, which there is nothing you can do much about anyway. If you are seriously into soloing, sub /nin, which means shadows should absorb it.

                      I primarily use Dia - only time I have actively used bio when soloing was when I was soloing those EM/T clusters outside the Halvung Staging point to get a blu friend refueling, cause those sobs hit hard... Oh and on the odd popped NM, but 9/10 its Dia.

                      And seriously - that paladin? Let him die a couple of times. Nothing says use your mp more than a dead paladin with full mp...

                          RDMs don't get hit by NMs with physical attacks (unless you're soloing).

                              Pardon my confusion, but are we speaking the same language?

                              EDIT: Or are you trying (badly) to say that you want a Jelly Ring just so you can solo high HP NMs?

                                Don't worry about it, just get the ring.

                                Even if you found out you aren't really using it there are other jobs that can benefit from it. You don't have to choose or justify why you want it. If you wanna try it out just get it and have fun with it.

                                (As a side note I'm considering getting one myself, specially for PLD )
